What is a Split AC system?

AC systems are typically categorized according to how they are set up or packaged. For example, when you have an AC unit installed in a single window, all key components of the system - the compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator - exist in that single container/package. In a split AC system, the parts that generate cool air and the part that outputs the cool air are separated. If you’ve seen homes with AC units high up on walls with moving vents, that’s a split AC system. You don’t hear or see the compressor or condenser as these are outside the dwelling, with duct work carrying air connected to the distribution unit in the wall. Split systems are therefore typically much quieter, - and also cost more — than a window unit. Also, if you need to cool more than one room, a split AC system works best in terms of energy efficiency and ROI.
